Like a shaded river
Bamboo cathedrals
Protect your ground
One hiding the other
Like blended bush
From the banks of a river
I sip slowly
Blowing you to a cool
Like my bowl of callaloo

sida - working title
after the fall
when bones like branches
say goodbye
as leaving begins
the fading life we shared
remember me as nothing
when bones like branches
say goodbye
as leaving begins
the fading life we shared
remember me as nothing
one november
de mas is scared
de masses scared
we playin fraid
we plain fraid
the more i says
more scared i is
more says im scared
till i learn
something hiding here
between these words
is a message
im not sure
but im hoping so
get it
it will make sense
one november
like this one
it make sense to say this
no need to be afraid
they not suppose to raid de mas
the masquerade
the masses should behave again
come ash wednesday
this year we did learn bout de wife
she is to fraid too
who to believe boy
is really security she was protecting
and wha bout he
he did fraid to say anything too
me now i did fraid too
cause the mas is sacred
and see
the masses scared
or we playin fraid
they gettin on too slack
them eh not me
i too fraid
i fraid too
play a big mas man
doh be fraid
nah yuh ha to pay before november
oh you cyah do dat
doh fraid
it go still happen
cause de mas sacred too
was amazing grace
was playin de mornin
yuh sister was makin
and how great thou art
when miss mary heart
did get he ears cut off
she one good son
all she did love
under sun right dey
by green corner
pooyan pull
and de ears
well de ears did fall off
lei and powder
smelling up de place
now mixing with blood
in de sacred space
but none ah dat nex year
we could say in november
and even if it happen
who go remember
how we did start off scared
one november

Man Out
The opening partnership ended with you on 25.
It was the same ball you faced many times in previous overs.
He bowled the same ball.
He thinking it must work at some point,
you that you know how to play it.
Not this time though.
Caught, back in the covers,
you realize there is another innings to come
and after that, something else.

Alone
Come calling at my gate
And find me
Alone
Home alone
My lovers all culled
Come to find me guilty
Guilty of all that makes me alone
But that which does not leave me alone
You're expected and will be welcomed
Company welcome when alone
Expected to deny this unnatural state
You find me in
Not waiting but alone
Guilty and ready to be charged.
And find me
Alone
Home alone
My lovers all culled
Come to find me guilty
Guilty of all that makes me alone
But that which does not leave me alone
You're expected and will be welcomed
Company welcome when alone
Expected to deny this unnatural state
You find me in
Not waiting but alone
Guilty and ready to be charged.

Entitled/Problems Inspire
I’m not a hip hop black
At the the front of my mind
Is not building a stack
Of cash or diamonds and gold
Or maybe I’m just saying this as I get old
I danced to Biggie Smalls and the one called Kim
And my mind soaked up the words of Slim
Now the Bajan, Ms B and Nikki Minaj
Seem to be the ones in charge
Shady! they’d say just knockin da hustle
Hating on Dre, Diddy and the one called…
But do I have a choice, can I give voice
To how I feel misplaced in this race
I have no imagination to dream of other
So I just lay back and say whatever brother
The pressure unseen but who feels it knows
If you’re not a hip hop black where do you goes
It’s where the thing’s at you can’t fight that
But I’m a lover not a fighter, an old house cat
Am I making too much of just entertainment
Well yeah I have to when it’s to my detriment
Every now and then I care for some R and B
But even them singers don’t always do it for me
My life’s too real and that’s the deal
Can’t always take being told what to feel
And we bought it whole from Redifusion
Now a single man in a media run nation
Soca is shit and Calypso dying
But when you look around ain’t nobody crying
Where, where do I go from here
Me myself and I don’t really care
These are just some words that flowed from my mind
Not starting a revolution for that I’m too kind
Just wondering if I can really find
A place in this world to put down a whine
It’s the rhythm and the beats that unite us
And that’s why I try to say maybe they’re righteous
But for me there is no place
When it’s only their voices that are in the space.
